ST. LOUIS, MO., March 1, 2010... The St. Louis Regional Clean Air Partnership is now on Facebook and Twitter. The organization began its journey into social media by officially launching Facebook and Twitter pages on Feb. 25. Individuals can access The Partnership’s Facebook fan page by logging on to the Facebook site and typing “St. Louis Regional Clean Air Partnership” into the search bar, and sign up to follow the organization on Twitter by logging on to www.twitter.com/gatewaycleanair. Links to both pages can also be found on The Partnership’s website at www.cleanair-stlouis.com.
This new form of outreach represents a new and exciting way for The Partnership to further engage and unite the St. Louis community in the clean air effort. Starting this summer, the organization will utilize Twitter and Facebook to post daily air quality forecasts. But, year-round, the pages will be used to deliver the latest air quality-related news and information, to provide individuals with tips on how they can do their share for cleaner air and to keep the public updated on green events going on around town. The organization’s Facebook page will also provide an open forum where area residents will be able to discuss air quality topics and issues.
“With the popularity of social networking continuing to grow, it became clear that The Partnership needed to establish a presence on Facebook and Twitter, and we are thrilled to embark on this journey into social media,” said Susannah Fuchs, Senior Director of Environmental Health for the American Lung Association of the Central States and spokesperson for the St. Louis Regional Clean Air Partnership. “We see social networking as an important way to expand our reach into the community, further spread our clean air message and keep our finger on the pulse of what people in the region are doing to live green and improve the region’s air quality.”
The Partnership is hoping to acquire 1,000 Facebook fans and Twitter followers before the start of air quality forecasting in May. Area residents are encouraged to log on to both pages to show their support for the organization and help it reach its goal.

The St. Louis Regional Clean Air Partnership was formed in 1995 with the support of the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association, East-West Gateway Council of Governments, Washington University and others. The American Lung Association of the Central States continues to lead the organization’s efforts to increase awareness of regional air quality issues and to encourage activities to reduce air pollution emissions.
